Background

How he got here

Rope first, then the uniform, then the fire service. Each one left something in how he works.

Climbing

Sport, trad, big wall, ice

Years on rock and ice, and later a working climbing guide. That's where the rope habits came from — redundancy, checking your partner, and an honest read of what a system will actually take.

Navy — 4 years

Naval engineer

Four years as a naval engineer — systems, tolerances, and the habit of assuming nothing about a piece of kit you didn't inspect yourself.

Army — 16 years

Reconnaissance and surveillance

Sixteen years in Army reconnaissance and surveillance. Somewhere in there the discipline stopped being something imposed and started being how he works.

Fire service

Career firefighter and UASI member

Certified Rope Rescue Technician, Confined Space Rescue Technician, Trench Rescue Technician and Structural Collapse Specialist. [NEEDS FROM TOM: years in the fire service]

WHY WE EXIST

Resultant Rigging isn’t here to tell you how much we know or show off what gear we have. We’re here to bring like-minded rescuers together to raise awareness of better and current techniques — and to build an environment where the people who may one day be forced to work together can learn and train together first.

Interoperability

Crews who may one day work the same scene should train together first. Training Days mix agencies rather than keeping them apart.

Current technique

Technique moves. Raising awareness of what's current — and letting people try it on a real problem — beats defending the way it's always been done.

Our approach

What you won't get from us

Three things we're not going to do.

01

Tell you you're doing it wrong

We won't tell you your department is doing it wrong, and we won't insist you need a particular piece of equipment before you can be effective.

02

Advertise how much anyone knows

We won't spend the day showing off, and we won't talk about what other training outfits are or aren't doing.

03

Rush you off the problem

What you'll get instead is a realistic problem, people worth solving it with, and enough time to get it right.

“We owe it to the people calling us to save them to be better than what we're told is acceptable.”

Tom Dennehy
Founder, Resultant Rigging

Get on the rope.

Tell us what you need to train and we'll build the day around it.
